Everybody's Singing, Sunshine Day

Yesterday we were given a treat, a delightfully beautiful day. The boys and I decided to soak up the sun for a bit by walking to Audrey's school to pick her up. Yep, we skipped the ever so fun carpool line. I am sure the boys appreciated that.

The ice cream man was also enjoying the gorgeous day and probably made a killing as well. Of course we had to stop and get popsicles.

They finished the popsicles fairly quickly and looked like circus clowns for the remainder of the walk home. The sun was shining today as well. In fact, it was 68 degrees today. Gorgeous weather. Too bad it is supposed to snow tomorrow. Spring is teasing us, that's for sure.

Word Filled Wednesday - Bloom

This verse reflects my life right now. Growth is occurring. Change is taking place. Little blossoms are starting to appear. Much pruning will need to be done, watering too. But I know that the result is going to be beautiful!

Then Sings My Soul Saturday - Britney

Then Sings My Soul Saturday is a wonderful Saturday Meme where we share a song that has impacted us.

"It can be a song that has spoken to your heart during a difficult time... a song that brings back a special memory... a song that makes you want to sing along to the top of your lungs... a song that makes you glad... a song that makes you want to dance... a song that has inspired you... a song that makes you feel like the words were written just for you... a song that makes your soul sing."

For my first Sing My Soul Saturday, I'm not quite focusing on a song that makes my heart sing, but it is a song that has a powerful message.

When the news of Corey Haim's death traveled around the internet, I was shocked to read such harsh and judgmental reactions from some people. There were many who felt as if he deserved it, because he made poor decisions. And, hey, he was privileged at one point in his life, so his life couldn't have been ALL that bad. It was awful to read such words.

The song, Britney, by Bebo Norman immediately came to mind. If you have never heard it before, I hope that it speaks to your heart. I know I was convicted the first time I heard it. I am a very empathetic and loving person, but I definitely have my judgmental moments.

This song reminds us that we should love, encourage, and help those who are hurting, regardless of their upbringing, poor choices or religion.

They Say Patience is a Virtue

I have always struggled with patience. I seem to have a short fuse. I can also be very impulsive at times when it comes to things I want to do or buy.

When I was newly married, I remember I was struggling with some people in my life that were pushing all of my buttons. So, I prayed about it. I asked God to teach me patience. And oh God is quite the humorous one. Do you know what he did?

He gave me this bundle of joy. Oh, my darling Audrey. She is a lot like her mommy. She is independent and stubborn. She wants what she wants when she wants it and she thinks her way is the best way.

As a baby, she didn't want to be held often. She wanted to be off doing her own thing. When I tried to hold her to trim her nails or to try to cuddle her when she was sick, oh she would scream and scream.

I realized then that God had found a way to teach me patience.

Audrey is now six years old and oh, that girl fights me tooth and nail. Everything feels like a battle with her lately. And I have been really lacking in the patience department. I have also been lacking in the prayer department, which is a huge part of the problem.

I swear this week has been one of the roughest yet with fight after fight and battle after battle. I bet I am going to wake up tomorrow with over 30 gray hairs.

So we have a new behavior chart we are going to start up this weekend with Audrey. But perhaps mommy needs a chart for prayer time as well. Looks like Audrey isn't the only one who could use a little discipline.

Change is a Good Thing

Since 2006, I have been blogging at Butterfly Kisses, but I was ready for a change, something that really fit me.

So here is my new home, 3 Little Sparrows. I sure do hope that you like it.

Fire and Ice

Oh it's a wonderful day! The Eclipse trailer is finally out and it is incredible. June 30th can't come soon enough.

Faith in Kenya

I posted this over at 5 Minutes for Mom, but wanted to share it here as well.

Last week my 6-year-old daughter, Audrey, and I did something exciting. We searched through dozens of photos on the Compassion website and chose a little girl to sponsor together.

My heart has always been with Africa, so I did choose to look at children in Kenya. I also thought it would be fun for Audrey if we chose a child who was close to her age.

Audrey sat on my lap as we looked over the photos and read about the children waiting for sponsorship. That is when we saw Faith. Audrey pointed to her sweet picture just as I started to click on it. "I want to help her, mommy."

Audrey's middle name is Faith, so she was delighted that they had the name in common. She also loved Faith's darling smile and pretty pink dress.

We decided together that Faith would be the child we would sponsor. We said a prayer, and sent off our first monthly contribution.

This weekend, while blog hopping, I discovered that the Compassion bloggers will be in Kenya later this week.I am thrilled that Audrey and I will be able to follow the bloggers as they travel to several child development centers in Kenya.

While they won't be visiting Faith's center, we will still have the true joy of getting a glimpse into Faith's life.


I look forward to sharing with Audrey the stories, photos and videos that the Compassion bloggers will post from Kenya. I think it will help her to better understand why children like Faith need our help.
