Trapped in NYC

It was supposed to be a quick trip to NYC for work. I was to arrive Tuesday afternoon and come back home Wednesday evening. But plans quickly changed...........

Times Square - Thursday, January 27

The East Coast got snow, lots of it.

My flight home on Wednesday was canceled. My rescheduled flight home on Thursday morning was canceled. The airports were completely shut down on Thursday morning and as they opened, flights were still either canceled or sold out. Trying to get out of the city on Thursday was nearly impossible.

The lovely gals at Zocalo Group, who had put together the event I had attended, worked hard to get the 3 of us from Colorado back home again. There was another gal from California, who was also trapped in the city and two PR gals from Chicago desperately needing to get back home. Unfortunately, there weren't any flights until Friday morning.

But I suppose, if you are to get trapped somewhere, NYC has got to be one of the best places to find yourself stuck....especially when surrounded by new, lovely friends.

We had received AMEX gift cards to cover the costs of cab fare. But since we ended up not needing to take cabs, my new blogging friend, Brooke, and I used it to see a show on Broadway. There was quite a storm brewing on Wednesday, so finding Broadway tickets for 50% off was easy. For $60.00 we received 6th row orchestra seats to Mary Poppins. It was FABULOUS!!!!!!!

The snow was starting to come down

We also made a trip to Junior's for their Devil's Food Cheesecake...and we didn't have to wait at all for a table. Again, because of the weather, it was pretty empty and we were sat immediately.

We also found ourselves in Forever 21 for a BIG portion of the trip. Brooke had NEVER been in Forever 21 before, and the one in Times Square is 4 or 5 levels of Forever 21 bliss.

We had a great time browsing the racks and being extra goofy. And I made her go into the photo booth with me. It was fun!

Being trapped in the city was definitely bittersweet. We all had kids to get back home to and daily routines which, in our absence, were becoming quite hard for family members and friends.

So while it was quite magical to enjoy winter in the Big Apple, and the giant, gorgeous snowflakes falling from the sky, getting back home again was JUST as wonderful.

Hi Erica,

It was a pleasure meeting you, and I have to say I'm glad you made it to Junior's. I hope Brooke got her Black & White Cookie.

Good luck with your Girl Scout Cookie sales! Here's that recipe I told you about.
